Controlling Weeds

Weed control is very important in the success of having a beautifully green lawn. One weed can make the whole yard look bad.

I prefer using a blend with my spring fertilizing. This helps kill the weed when they are just starting to grow. When they start to take over my lawn, I prefer to use a liquid. It works faster and I know that the liquid will penetrate it. Spray the lawn when it is dry, and rain is not expected for a least 24hrs.

Some weeds can not be killed by poisons. These weeds must be dug up by hand. Take a small garden shovel and dig it out root and all. Then fill the hole with some fresh soil and add a bit of seed on top and water.

There are many different types of weeds including Dandelions, Crab Grass, Plantains, Chickweed, Clover, Bedstraw, Black Medick (yellow clover) English Daisy, Curled Dock, Heal-all, Ground Ivy (Creeping Charlie) Knotweed, Ragweed, Shepherd's-Purse, Poison Ivy, Devils Paintbrush, buttercup and many others.
